How to prepare: Compare your existing dental education, licenses, and credentials with the intended state dental board's and employer's requirements to identify any gaps. Dentists must hold a license in the state where they work; requirements vary and usually include an accredited DDS or DMD degree and written and clinical exams.
What the civilian work involves
- Examine teeth, gums, and related tissues, using dental instruments, x-rays, or other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health, diagnose diseases or abnormalities, and plan appropriate treatments.
- Formulate plan of treatment for patient's teeth and mouth tissue.
