08H Army Equestrian
Overview
An Army Equestrian cares for, trains, transports, rides, and drives military working equids while supporting military funerals, mounted color guards, historical events, recruiting, and public outreach. MOS 08H replaced the D2 military horseman identifier in March 2026 and currently serves infantry Soldiers in grades E-5 through E-9.

What the Work Involves
- Provide daily equid care, including feeding, watering, grooming, exercise, health checks, and basic first aid.
- Clean and maintain stables, grounds, tack, harnesses, trailers, conveyances, and animal-care equipment.
- Train and condition equids for riding, harness work, ceremonies, and safe interaction with handlers and the public.
- Schedule work, supervise animal-care staff, provide technical guidance, and instruct equestrians.
- Coordinate equid transport, feed and bedding inventories, property accountability, and care records.
