Dental Assistants
Assisting dental officers with oral disease prevention, examination, and treatment directly overlaps with civilian dental assisting.
How to prepare: Have your target state's Board of Dental Examiners assess your documented military training against its dental-assisting requirements to identify remaining gaps. Some states require an accredited program and an exam while others allow on-the-job training; licensing, registration, or certification may apply to entry, advancement, or duties such as radiography and infection control.
What the civilian work involves
- Prepare patient, sterilize or disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, or assist dentist during dental procedures.
- Record treatment information in patient records.
- Order and monitor dental supplies and equipment inventory.
