MST Marine Science Technician
Overview
A Marine Science Technician observes, records, and analyzes environmental and scientific data, then performs field monitoring and laboratory analysis to identify chemicals and oil. The technician responds to oil and hazardous materials, inspects vessels, waterfront facilities, and shipping containers for safety, security, and regulatory compliance, and provides environmental information for Coast Guard operations.

What the Work Involves
- Conduct routine and non-routine analyses of in-process materials, raw materials, environmental samples, finished goods, or stability samples.
- Interpret test results, compare them to established specifications and control limits, and make recommendations on appropriateness of data for release.
- Calibrate, validate, or maintain laboratory equipment.
- Ensure that lab cleanliness and safety standards are maintained.
