Telecommunications Operations
Telecommunications Operations personnel accepted and processed incoming and outgoing electrical record messages and operated telephone switchboards and telecommunications and cryptographic systems. The Air Force created the specialty on 15 May 1951 as the Communications Center specialty and renamed it Telecommunications Operations on 31 May 1975 without changing the AFSC number. Service records carry the skill levels 29130 (apprentice), 29150 (specialist), 29170 (supervisor), and 29190 (superintendent). The DMDC crosswalk lists 29130, 29150, and 29170 as Telecommunications Operations Specialist with an obsolete-status month of September 1993. That entry does not establish a retirement date or successor. The cited sources do not establish a conversion from 291X0 to 291X1, the D-prefix communications-programmer code D291X0, or a later successor.
