The December 1982 OSR states the former 981X0 (Dental Specialist), 981X1 (Preventive Dentistry), and 983X0 (Dental Assistant) specialties were combined into the current 981X0 Dental Assistant specialty in 1979. That 981X0 family converted to 4Y0X1 on 31 October 1993 (see 98110 through 98190). Skill-level codes for this ladder were 98330, 98350, 98370, 98390.
