Documented history

Reconnaissance

The position change took effect on 7 November 1949. Conversion of the affected soldiers’ primary or potential-primary specialties took effect on 1 February 1950.

  • The guidance establishes this position conversion, not an Army-wide cancellation of SSN 0761.
Source extraction notes

The instrument prints no field-wide rescinded-code list; only its explicit appendix T/O&E position conversions are asserted here. The reconnaissance position converts to reconnaissance-scout MOS 4761, explicitly marked as an Infantry Career Field exception. The 1 position-level source assertion(s) are collapsed into this one canonical predecessor event, preserving first-source successor order. Personnel MOS conversion is effective 1 February 1950; the appendix's T/O&E position amendments took effect 7 November 1949. The predecessor remains in the SSN namespace; successors are numeric MOS codes.

Scout

In Infantry use, SSN 0761 (Scout) was restricted: intelligence/reconnaissance-chief duties went to MOS 1761 and scout duties to MOS 4761. Specific reconnaissance-sergeant and messenger positions previously coded 0761 instead changed to MOS 2812 and 4745, respectively.

The position conversions in the regulation's appendix took effect on 29 April 1949, as specified in paragraph 8a.

  • The regulation did not rescind 0761 Army-wide.
Source extraction notes

Paragraph 6 restricts this SSN in Infantry use but does not rescind it Army-wide. Paragraph 6 assigns intelligence/reconnaissance-chief duties to 1761 and scout duties to 4761; appendix reconnaissance-sergeant and messenger exceptions add 2812 and 4745. Repeated position-level change-sheet rows are collapsed into this one canonical predecessor event, preserving first-source successor order. The predecessor remains in the SSN namespace; successors are numeric MOS codes.
