627 Title not stated in source

Appendix I deletes Army SSN 627 and refers to the instructor classification rule rather than naming a single replacement code. Under that rule, instructors normally used the SSN of the specialty matching their instruction, with “Instructor” added in parentheses to the specialty title.

Documented history

Title not stated in source

The deletion date is not stated. June 30, 1945 is the publication date of Change 2, not an established effective date for deleting SSN 627.

  • Appendix I does not state the deleted specialty’s title.
  • For personnel permanently assigned to instruction but not qualified in a specialty related to the course, the rule authorizes Technical Instructor (SSN 659) if highly skilled, or Basic (SSN 521) if they have no military occupational specialty.
  • The rule’s Rifleman (SSN 745) example illustrates shared coding for a specialty and its instructor; it does not establish SSN 745 as the successor to SSN 627.
Source extraction notes

Appendix I deletes SSN 627 but provides no explicit SSN successor code. Printed directive: "(See par. 16b.)" No paragraph reference, ASTP symbol, or generic gun-crewman instruction was inferred into the SSN namespace. The table does not print the deleted specialty title, so the neutral title placeholder is used. The row-level deletion date is unstated. The citation dates Change 2 to 30 June 1945; that publication date is not an effective deletion date.
