877 Title not stated in source

Army SSN 877 was deleted with a reference to paragraph 16b, not a single replacement code. That rule normally classified instructors under the SSN for the specialty matching their instruction, adding “Instructor” in parentheses to the specialty title.

Documented history

Title not stated in source

30 June 1945 is the publication date of Change 2, which contains the deletion table. The effective deletion date for SSN 877 is not stated.

  • In rare cases, personnel permanently assigned to instruction who lacked a specialty related to the course could receive Technical Instructor (SSN 659) if highly skilled, or Basic (SSN 521) if they had no military occupational specialty. Neither was a universal successor to SSN 877.
  • Appendix I does not state the deleted specialty’s title.
Source extraction notes

Appendix I deletes SSN 877 but provides no explicit SSN successor code. Printed directive: "(See par. 16b.)" No paragraph reference, ASTP symbol, or generic gun-crewman instruction was inferred into the SSN namespace. The table does not print the deleted specialty title, so the neutral title placeholder is used. The row-level deletion date is unstated. The citation dates Change 2 to 30 June 1945; that publication date is not an effective deletion date.
