879 Title not stated in source

SSN 879 was deleted with a reference to paragraph 16b, which sets conditional rules for classifying instructors rather than naming one universal replacement. Ordinarily, instructors used the SSN for the related military specialty, with “Instructor” added in parentheses to the specialty title.

Documented history

Title not stated in source

30 June 1945 is the publication date of Change 2, not an established deletion date for SSN 879. The deletion date is unstated.

  • For personnel permanently assigned to instructional duty who were not qualified in a specialty related to their course, paragraph 16b authorized Technical Instructor (SSN 659) if highly skilled, or Basic (SSN 521) if they had no military occupational specialty.
  • Rifleman (SSN 745) illustrates the ordinary instructor coding rule; it is not a stated successor to SSN 879.
  • Appendix I does not state the deleted specialty’s title.
Source extraction notes

Appendix I deletes SSN 879 but provides no explicit SSN successor code. Printed directive: "(See par. 16b.)" No paragraph reference, ASTP symbol, or generic gun-crewman instruction was inferred into the SSN namespace. The table does not print the deleted specialty title, so the neutral title placeholder is used. The row-level deletion date is unstated. The citation dates Change 2 to 30 June 1945; that publication date is not an effective deletion date.
