881 Title not stated in source

SSN 881 was deleted with a direction to follow paragraph 16b, which normally assigned instructors the SSN of the corresponding occupational specialty and added “Instructor” in parentheses to the title. For personnel permanently assigned to instruction but not qualified in a specialty related to the course, the rule exceptionally authorized SSN 659 (Technical Instructor) if highly skilled, or SSN 521 (Basic) if they had no military occupational specialty.

Documented history

Title not stated in source

The deletion date is not stated. June 30, 1945 is the publication date of Change 2, which contains the deletion table, not an established effective date for deleting SSN 881.

  • The deleted specialty’s title is not stated in Appendix I.
  • Paragraph 16b does not establish a single successor to SSN 881; the applicable code depended on the instructor’s assignment and qualifications.
Source extraction notes

Appendix I deletes SSN 881 but provides no explicit SSN successor code. Printed directive: "(See par. 16b.)" No paragraph reference, ASTP symbol, or generic gun-crewman instruction was inferred into the SSN namespace. The table does not print the deleted specialty title, so the neutral title placeholder is used. The row-level deletion date is unstated. The citation dates Change 2 to 30 June 1945; that publication date is not an effective deletion date.
