947 Title not stated in source

Appendix I deleted Army SSN 947 and directed readers to paragraph 16b: instructors generally used the SSN for the specialty they taught, with “Instructor” added in parentheses to the title. For personnel permanently assigned to instruction who lacked qualifications in a specialty related to the course, the rule authorized Technical Instructor (659) if highly skilled, or Basic (521) if they had no military occupational specialty.

Documented history

Title not stated in source

The deletion date is not stated. June 30, 1945 is the publication date of Change 2, not an established effective date for deleting SSN 947.

  • Appendix I does not state the deleted specialty’s title.
  • The rule does not establish a single successor to SSN 947; its Rifleman (745) example illustrates shared coding, not an unconditional replacement.
Source extraction notes

Appendix I deletes SSN 947 but provides no explicit SSN successor code. Printed directive: "(See par. 16b.)" No paragraph reference, ASTP symbol, or generic gun-crewman instruction was inferred into the SSN namespace. The table does not print the deleted specialty title, so the neutral title placeholder is used. The row-level deletion date is unstated. The citation dates Change 2 to 30 June 1945; that publication date is not an effective deletion date.
