815 Chief Ordnanceman

Appendix B lists SSN 815 as “Chief Ordnanceman” in the June 1944 tentative manual and “Chief Ordnanceman Artillery” in June 1945, with “See also 836, 838” tied to the marked earlier titles. That reference calls for individual qualification review, not an automatic split or fixed replacement by SSN 836 or 838.

Documented history

Chief Ordnanceman

June 1945 is the manual’s publication date; no effective date for a transition involving SSN 815 is stated.

  • The asterisked reference also applies to “Ordnance NCO,” the title listed under the September 1942 regulation and its supplements.
  • The entry does not explicitly establish a cancellation or rename; retaining number 815 does not by itself establish a successor relationship.
Source extraction notes

Predecessor title from the June 1944 tentative-manual column: Chief Ordnanceman. Suggested conversions/remarks, as printed: *See also 836, 838. Asterisks bind the suggestions to the correspondingly marked earlier title, not to an unmarked present-title meaning. The Present Title column is the manual's June 1945 meaning: Chief Ordnanceman Artillery. It is not a present-day MOS equivalence. This is a cross-reference or instruction to review the job specification, not an explicit fixed replacement or proof of cancellation. The table gives no row-level calendar effective date. June 1945 is the manual publication date, not an inferred individual conversion date.
