Documented history

MOS

Ground Safety Specialist

The manual was effective May 15, 2006, but personnel-system implementation was explicitly deferred. The July 20, 2006 announcement does not establish a conversion date for MOS 9956, so 2006 identifies the manual transition year rather than a confirmed end date.

Source extraction notes

The cited source prints the MOS code but not its occupational title; no title was inferred. Enlisted MOS moved from reporting category 9000 to miscellaneous-requirements category 8000. The manual is effective 2006-05-15, but personnel/HRDP implementation is explicitly deferred, so effective_to is null. No row-specific effective date is printed; year-only precision reflects the 2006 manual transition.

SSN

Radio Chief

Appendix B lists SSN 9956 as Radio Chief under AR 615-26 of September 1942 and its supplements, with SSN 766 as a suggested conversion. This was not an automatic replacement: each affected Marine’s Qualification Card had to be reviewed against the job specifications before a specialty was assigned.

June 1945 is the manual’s publication date. The entry gives no effective date for a change from SSN 9956.

  • No June 1945 Present Title is listed for 9956, and the entry does not establish a fixed transition to 766.
Source extraction notes

Predecessor title from the AR 615-26 column: Radio Chief. Suggested conversions/remarks: 766. The table gives no row-level effective date. June 1945 is the manual publication date, not an effective conversion date.
