Consecutive Foreign Language Translator
A Navy Enlisted Classification: a skill designation sailors hold in addition to their rating.
Description
Performs duties as Russian-English consecutive interpreters for inspection teams conducting on-site inspections of strategic nuclear facilities in the United States and Russian Federation pursuant to existing bilateral arms control missions within the framework of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) and Plutonium Production Reactor Agreement (PPRA). Interpreters will be assigned to the On-Site Inspection & Building Capacity Directorate (OB) of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) at Fort Belvoir, VA or Travis AFB, CA upon successful completion of the 47-week DTRA Russian Interpreting Course at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) in Monterey, CA. The minimum course graduation requirement is Interagency Language oundtable (ILR) L2+/R2+/S2; however, DTRA linguist liaisons at DLIFLC will evaluate a prospective interpreter's linguistic aptitude and overall professional demeanor prior to determining an individual's follow-on assignment to DTRA.
