How to prepare: Bring documented training and operating experience to a prospective employer for assessment against its trucks and workplace conditions. In U.S. general-industry work, the employer must ensure and certify formal instruction, practical training and workplace performance evaluation before permitting operation outside training; prior training can count only where appropriate to the truck and working conditions and the operator is evaluated as competent, with performance reevaluation at least every three years.
What the civilian work involves
- Move levers or controls that operate lifting devices, such as forklifts, lift beams with swivel-hooks, hoists, or elevating platforms, to load, unload, transport, or stack material.
