Notes & Sources

  • NEC 9RIF is a language capability code for Tarift. The Navy Enlisted Classification manual lists 9RIF in the language table under '9ACH-9ZUN - Language Capability (Personnel Only)', which identifies a foreign language in which an individual is proficient.
  • The code records measured language proficiency (Interagency Language Roundtable scale, with annual recertification), not interpreter, translator or cryptologic-linguist duties, so occupation-specific skills, career paths and credentials are not published from this identifier alone.
