Description

Serves as a non-physician medical provider supporting direct action; amphibious and ground reconnaissance; maritime interdiction; foreign internal defense; irregular and unconventional warfare; and conducts surface, subsurface, and airborne operations, independent of a medical officer. Serves as an organic member of Marine Special Operations Teams and Marine Reconnaissance Platoons and is proficient in the associated core skills of a Marine Special Operations Element Member and Reconnaissance Marine. Conducts static line and freefall parachuting, underwater (open/closed circuit) operations, and utilizes explosives in the performance of assigned duties to ensure integrated medical mission support. Performs both emergent and non-emergent patient care and associated field medical administrative and logistical duties. Performs diagnostic procedures, prolonged field care, surgical procedures, basic analgesia, conscious and unconscious sedation, CBRN treatment, basic laboratory, basic sonography, basic x-ray, and veterinary support in an austere environment. Recognizes open/closed circuit diving injuries and trained as an inside tender. Conducts and directs preventative medicine for field activities. Provides healthcare as a non-physician healthcare provider during clinical proficiency training and when assigned to fixed medical treatment facilities.
