Overview
A Fleet Marine Force and Special Operations Independent Duty Corpsman provides emergent and nonemergent care without a medical officer while supporting reconnaissance, maritime interdiction, unconventional warfare, and surface, subsurface, and airborne operations. The corpsman performs diagnostic and surgical procedures, prolonged field care, sedation, laboratory work, sonography, x-ray services, veterinary support, preventive medicine, parachuting, underwater operations, and duties involving explosives.
