Overview

A Surface Force Independent Duty Corpsman serves as the Medical Department Representative aboard surface ships, with Fleet Marine Force units, and at isolated shore stations without a medical officer. The corpsman provides routine and emergency patient care, performs diagnostic and laboratory procedures, manages medical administration and logistics, and directs preventive medicine, industrial health surveillance, health education, and radiation health programs as needed.
