Radiologic Technologists and Technicians
Military CT scanning, radiation safety, patient care, and imaging equipment management directly overlap with civilian diagnostic imaging work.
How to prepare: Have the destination state's health board review your education and certification records against its radiologic technologist requirements, since most states require licensure or certification. If pursuing ARRT Radiography through the primary pathway, you must hold an associate's degree or higher, complete an ARRT-approved radiography program, meet ethics requirements, and pass the examination.
What the civilian work involves
- Position patient on examining table and set up and adjust equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by physician.
- Monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
- Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
