Pharmacy Technician

Description

Prepares and dispenses prescribed medicines and pharmaceutical preparations. Compounds preparations according to prescriptions issued by medical officers. Calculate dosing of outpatient medications and intravenous mixtures based on weight and/or age. Procures, stores and issues pharmaceutical materials and supplies. Maintains files and records and submits required pharmacy reports. Research recalls and backordered medications when applicable for alternatives. As required, performs duties independently in the absence of a pharmacist. As the Shipboard Technician, performs additional duties as the Repair Parts Petty Officer (RPPO), responsible for the ordering and procurement of the Medical Department Authorized Medical Allowance Lists (AMALs) supplies in addition to narcotics, equipment and other miscellaneous items; participate in Controlled Substances Inventory Boards; procure immunizations for medical department and report temperatures and viability; responsible for budget allotment including the monitoring of emergency AMAL materials and critical care items; performs reverse distribution of expired medications and monitors the allocation of credit; responsible for quarterly updates of medical department supply Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support system (DMLSS); conducts yearly wall to wall inventory of all medical supplies and Medications; prepare open purchase orders for items requiring credit card purchases; collaborate with ship’s supply department to track items purchased utilizing the Relational Supply (R-Supply), i.e., narcotics, equipment and open purchase orders.
