Overview

A tactical unmanned aircraft system repairer performs, inspects, and supervises field and sustainment maintenance on unmanned aircraft systems. The repairer troubleshoots aircraft systems and ground equipment, removes and replaces payload and weapons components, and prepares maintenance forms and records.

How to prepare: Assemble military maintenance records for FAA evaluation of experience toward Airframe and Powerplant ratings. The certificate is not required by FAA regulation for every airline mechanic job, but air carriers often require it for hiring.

    Eligibility and preparation: No mandatory education, experience, or prior certification is required to take the AET examination.

  • Mechanic (Airframe & Powerplant)

    Earn both FAA mechanic ratings to support entry into certificated aircraft maintenance work.

    Eligibility and preparation: Applicants must be at least 18 and able to read, write, speak, and understand English. For both ratings, qualify through 30 months of concurrent practical experience appropriate to both ratings, graduation from an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School, or completion of the Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification Council training course for military personnel. Knowledge, oral, and practical tests are required.
