Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems Operators remotely pilot unmanned aircraft and complete required checks and procedures before, during, and after flight. They select and prepare operating sites, deploy air vehicles and ground equipment, support launch and recovery, execute reconnaissance and security missions, and perform limited unit level maintenance on communications equipment, power sources, and wheeled vehicles.

Eligibility and preparation: First-time applicants must be at least 16, be able to read, speak, write, and understand English, be in a physical and mental condition to fly safely, and pass the initial UAG knowledge exam. The FAA also lists a separate route for Part 61 pilot certificate holders who have completed a flight review within the previous 24 months.
