CMS Cyber Mission Specialist
Overview
Cyber Mission Specialists protect Coast Guard networks and the Marine Transportation System by detecting, disrupting, containing, and minimizing cyber threats. They conduct offensive and defensive cyberspace operations, network exploitation and analysis, vulnerability assessments, incident response and reconstruction, computer and network forensics, and access tool development.

What the Work Involves
- Develop plans to safeguard computer files against accidental or unauthorized modification, destruction, or disclosure and to meet emergency data processing needs.
- Encrypt data transmissions and erect firewalls to conceal confidential information as it is being transmitted and to keep out tainted digital transfers.
- Perform risk assessments and execute tests of data processing system to ensure functioning of data processing activities and security measures.
- Modify computer security files to incorporate new software, correct errors, or change individual access status.
- Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations.
