Yeoman (PI) · Renamed to JO, effective April 2, 1948
The Historian article explicitly says remaining postwar correspondents became the yeoman (PI) sub-specialty and that, as part of the Coast Guard's 2 April 1948 service-wide reorganization, it was established and renamed as the Journalist rating. Code PI preserves the only predecessor identifier printed by the source; no synthetic Navy Specialist code or Navy YN branch is imported. The two contemporaneous Bulletins corroborate the Coast Guard-wide effective date and Navy-policy-conforming overhaul.
