0847 Field Artillery Sensor Support Marine
Overview
Field Artillery Sensor Support Marines develop weather data for artillery ballistic computations and conduct survey operations to support accurate artillery fire and counterfire efforts. They operate weather, survey, navigation, distance measuring, and acoustic sensor equipment, as well as computer systems used for computations, digital communications, command and control, and imagery development.

What the Work Involves
- Check all layers of maps to ensure accuracy, identifying and marking errors and making corrections.
- Produce or update overlay maps to show information boundaries, water locations, or topographic features on various base maps or at different scales.
- Develop or use mathematical or computer models for weather forecasting.
- Interpret data, reports, maps, photographs, or charts to predict long- or short-range weather conditions, using computer models and knowledge of climate theory, physics, and mathematics.
- Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
