Gas Plant Operators
Operating liquid oxygen and nitrogen plants, maintaining compressors and refrigeration systems, and correcting plant abnormalities transfer directly to gas-processing equipment operation and monitoring.
How to prepare: Seek supervised operator training on the target plant's gas-processing controls, with emphasis on natural-gas liquefaction and regasification where those processes differ from oxygen and nitrogen production.
What the civilian work involves
- Monitor equipment functioning, observe temperature, level, and flow gauges, and perform regular unit checks to ensure that all equipment is operating as it should.
- Control operation of compressors, scrubbers, evaporators, and refrigeration equipment to liquefy, compress, or regasify natural gas.
- Record, review, and compile operations records, test results, and gauge readings such as temperatures, pressures, concentrations, and flows.
