Ship Engineers
Performing, supervising, and training LCAC engineering operations provides a foundation for vessel-engineering work.
How to prepare: Identify the MMC engineering endorsement appropriate to the target vessel and route, then request USCG evaluation of your military sea service using an official sea-service transcript or assignment history, not a DD-214. Include vessel tonnage, routes, propulsion power, time underway, and assigned duties so USCG can determine equivalent experience and the appropriate endorsement grade, class, and limits.
What the civilian work involves
- Monitor engine, machinery, or equipment indicators when vessels are underway, and report abnormalities to appropriate shipboard staff.
- Monitor and test operations of engines or other equipment so that malfunctions and their causes can be identified.
