Ship Engineers
Performing, supervising, and training crews in LCAC Deck Engineer operations provides transferable vessel engineering operations experience.
How to prepare: Assess existing credentials with the USCG National Maritime Center and request evaluation of military sea service using an official service transcript or assignment history plus vessel, propulsion, route, underway-time, and duty details; a DD-214 is not acceptable sea-service evidence. Pursue the MMC engineer endorsement appropriate to the intended vessel and route, completing any remaining sea-time, approved training, medical, drug-testing, and professional examination requirements identified by that review.
What the civilian work involves
- Monitor engine, machinery, or equipment indicators when vessels are underway, and report abnormalities to appropriate shipboard staff.
- Monitor and test operations of engines or other equipment so that malfunctions and their causes can be identified.
