Overview

A Senior Digital Network Exploitation Analyst leads basic analysts and analyzes collected information for metadata and content. The analyst uses specialized tools and data to reconstruct and document target networks, judge the value of relevant cyber intelligence, maintain continuity, ensure continued collection, provide indications and warning, identify users, and in some cases identify target activities.

Core Skills

  • Collected metadata and content analysis
  • Target network reconstruction and documentation
  • Collection continuity and warning assessment
  • Network vulnerability analysis and target prioritization

Civilian Career Paths

Career associations are editorial assessments of the cited evidence, not an official crosswalk unless the evidence explicitly says so. O*NET supplies civilian occupation information, not proof of a military match. Related experience does not confer civilian qualifications. Tasks and tools below describe civilian work, not military training.

DIA Analysis Officer

Analysis of collected metadata, target networks, and digital-system vulnerabilities transfers to DIA's analysis of foreign military capabilities in cyberspace.

How to prepare: Prepare an analytic writing sample using public information about foreign cyberspace capabilities for DIA's writing test and interview. DIA requires U.S. citizenship and a granted security clearance, with background inquiry, drug screening, and any required medical or counterintelligence-scope polygraph examinations.

Digital Forensics Analysts

Reconstructing target networks and analyzing collected metadata and content provides a foundation for examining digital information to understand network intrusions.

How to prepare: Complete a practice intrusion investigation using sample logs, documenting findings and procedures for preserving and handling digital evidence.

What the civilian work involves
  • Analyze log files or other digital information to identify the perpetrators of network intrusions.
  • Adhere to legal policies and procedures related to handling digital media.
  • Create system images or capture network settings from information technology environments to preserve as evidence.
Civilian tools and software (examples)
  • Linux
  • Python
  • Splunk Enterprise
