Overview

A Diver First Class dives and supervises dives using Air and Mixed Gas USN Diving Apparatus and oversees the testing, repair, and adjustment of diving equipment and support systems. The diver also supervises recompression chamber operations, diagnoses and treats diving-related injuries, and oversees underwater inspections, repair, salvage, rescue, demolition, and small boat operations.

Commercial Divers

Notes & Sources

For work covered by OSHA commercial diving rules, assignments must match documented experience or training; required training includes CPR, first aid, and, for personnel exposed to or controlling hyperbaric exposure, diving physics and physiology.
OSHA prohibits diving or other hyperbaric exposure during a known temporary impairment or condition likely to adversely affect the diver's safety or health.
Within ADCI's card framework, Entry Level requires at least 625 documented hours of formal instruction or a recognized equivalent; Air Diver requires at least 100 field days and 30 working dives, with only surface-supplied dives counting toward Air Diver requirements.
