Overview

Nondestructive Inspection specialists use noninvasive methods, including x-rays and ultrasound, to inspect the interiors of metal objects for wear, fatigue, and other defects. They identify small imperfections in systems and equipment and take corrective measures to keep equipment operating safely.

Getting Started

  • ASNT 9712 Level II Certification

    Pursue certification in a currently offered method that matches documented training and experience, preparing for the General, Specific, Instruction Preparation, and practical examinations.

    Eligibility and preparation: Documented method-specific training and experience: Magnetic Particle or Liquid Penetrant each requires 60 days of experience and five days of training; Radiographic requires 180 days of experience and 15 days of training plus radiation safety training; Ultrasonic requires 180 days of experience and 18 days of training. A day is at least seven hours, including accumulated hours. Initial theoretical training is valid for up to ten years. Training and experience verification and a Jaeger J1 visual-acuity form are required.
