Airdrop Systems Technicians supervise equipment preparation for airdrop, parachute packing, and the repair of parachutes and associated equipment. They establish rigging sites, instruct personnel on airdrop procedures, coordinate aircraft loading, participate in joint airdrop load inspections, and provide technical guidance to commanders.

Parachute Rigger

Supervising parachute packing, repacking and repair, ensuring equipment serviceability, and participating in airdrop load inspections provide directly relevant experience.

How to prepare: Assemble packing records and military service documentation to assess the FAA senior-rigger route under section 65.117. That route requires age 18 and English ability, subject to limited exceptions, a regulations written test, evidence of qualifying military membership or employment or honorable release within the preceding 12 months, service as a military rigger currently or within the preceding 12 months, and at least 20 parachutes packed for each requested type under an appropriately rated certificated or military rigger.
