0629 Transmissions Chief
Overview
A Transmissions Chief oversees the planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and supervision of radio, terrestrial wideband transmission, and wideband satellite communications systems. The chief develops site plans, integrates transmission data into communications electronic operating instructions, and manages training, security measures, equipment deployment, maintenance procedures, budgets, and administrative processes.

What the Work Involves
- Read work orders, blueprints, plans, datasheets or site drawings to determine work to be done.
- Install all necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arrestors, transmission lines, connectors, or tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs).
- Test operation of tower transmission components, using sweep testing tools or software.
- Test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, using test meters, circuit diagrams, polarity probes, and other hand tools.
- Monitor employees' work levels and review work performance.
