0842 Field Artillery Radar Operator
Overview
The Field Artillery Radar Operator emplaces, operates, and displaces counterfire radar systems while also operating military vehicles, generators, and communications equipment. The operator establishes voice and digital radio networks, performs hasty surveys, and uses fire support systems that process counterfire and artillery target intelligence and manage radar assets in the field.

What the Work Involves
- Run appropriate power, ground, or coaxial cables.
- Test circuits and components of malfunctioning telecommunications equipment to isolate sources of malfunctions, using test meters, circuit diagrams, polarity probes, and other hand tools.
- Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
- Assemble and install communication equipment such as data and telephone communication lines, wiring, switching equipment, wiring frames, power apparatus, computer systems, and networks.
- Maintain equipment logs that record performance problems, repairs, calibrations, or tests.
