0871 Joint Fires and Effects Integrator
Overview
A joint fires and effects integrator advises commanders and staffs on lethal and nonlethal fire support from mortars, artillery, naval surface fires, and fixed and rotary wing aircraft. The integrator plans, coordinates, and observes surface fires, employs laser designators and range finders, establishes voice and digital radio networks, and operates Marine Corps fire support systems.

What the Work Involves
- Develop and maintain liaisons with municipalities, county departments, and similar entities to facilitate plan development, response effort coordination, and exchanges of personnel and equipment.
- Prepare emergency situation status reports that describe response and recovery efforts, needs, and preliminary damage assessments.
- Produce or update overlay maps to show information boundaries, water locations, or topographic features on various base maps or at different scales.
- Monitor strength, clarity, and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals, and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts.
- Test repaired, newly installed, or updated equipment to ensure that it functions properly and conforms to specifications, using test equipment and observation.
