Aircraft Mechanics and Service Technicians
Intermediate-level maintenance of strike aviation armament equipment provides a specialized aviation maintenance foundation for broader aircraft maintenance work.
How to prepare: Review any existing mechanic ratings and submit documented military experience for FAA evaluation before choosing additional training, including assessment of the Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification Council route. FAA mechanic certification requires applicants to be at least 18, able to read, write, speak, and understand English, and pass knowledge, oral, and practical tests, with eligibility through 18 months of practical experience appropriate to one rating, 30 months concurrently performing duties appropriate to both Airframe and Powerplant ratings, graduation from an FAA-approved Aviation Maintenance Technician School, or completion of the military certification council training course.
What the civilian work involves
- Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
