Overview
A Naval Special Warfare communications technician operates and maintains shipboard and shore communications systems used by Naval Special Warfare units. The technician works with Joint Base Station and CORE systems, SINCGARS, Havequick, LPE capable radios, multiband and HF radios, field expedient antennas, frequency spectrum concepts, data transmission, waveforms, modulation, EKMS fundamentals, and DAMA and TACSAT procedures.

What the Work Involves
- Run appropriate power, ground, or coaxial cables.
- Test operation of tower transmission components, using sweep testing tools or software.
- Install all necessary transmission equipment components, including antennas or antenna mounts, surge arrestors, transmission lines, connectors, or tower-mounted amplifiers (TMAs).
- Report equipment problems, ensure that repairs are made, and make emergency repairs to equipment when necessary and possible.
- Monitor strength, clarity, and reliability of incoming and outgoing signals, and adjust equipment as necessary to maintain quality broadcasts.
