Description

<p>Master Chief Aircraft Maintenanceman (AFCM), is a senior leadership compression rating, for leaders knowledgeable in the skills and duties performed by personnel in the ratings Aviation Machinist's Mates (AD); Aviation Structural Mechanics (AM); and Aviation Structural Mechanics, Safety Equipment (AME). The AFCM plans and supervises tasks required to maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, preserve, and de-preserve aircraft engines and related systems; maintain aircraft airframe and structural components, flight surfaces and controls, hydraulic components and pneumatic control and actuating systems and mechanisms, landing gear systems, and other utility systems; and maintain aircraft metallic and non-metallic structures including fuselages, fixed and moveable flight surfaces and all related mechanisms. Other major supervisory skills include maintaining and inspecting ejection seats, canopy jettison components, environmental control, fire extinguishing, and associated life support systems. The AFCM is also responsible for overseeing maintenance of gaseous and liquid oxygen; cockpit pressurization; heating and cooling; ventilation systems; avionics cooling; anti-gravity and control components; and utility systems and associated equipment. The AFCM supervises performance of daily, pre-flight, post-flight operations as well as supervise operation of airframe work centers.</p>
