Aircraft Mechanics and Service Technicians
Organizational maintenance of MQ-8C airframes, power plants, and rotary systems provides directly relevant experience for aircraft mechanical maintenance.
How to prepare: Gather military maintenance records for FAA evaluation toward Airframe and Powerplant ratings. Certification requires age 18 or older, English proficiency, and passing knowledge, oral, and practical tests, with eligibility based on 18 months of appropriate experience for one rating or 30 months concurrently for both, or completion of an FAA-approved maintenance school or the Joint Service Aviation Maintenance Technician Certification Council training course.
What the civilian work involves
- Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Maintain repair logs, documenting all preventive and corrective aircraft maintenance.
- Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations.
