Advanced C-40 maintenance and responsibility for inspecting aircraft, engines, components, and equipment transfer directly to aircraft maintenance and inspection work.
How to prepare: Gather military maintenance records for FAA review of experience toward Airframe and Powerplant ratings. FAA certification requires age 18, English proficiency, 18 months of appropriate experience for one rating or 30 months concurrently for both, or an accepted school or military training route, plus written, oral, and practical tests; airlines often require certification even where FAA regulations do not.
What the civilian work involves
- Inspect completed work to certify that maintenance meets standards and that aircraft are ready for operation.
- Read and interpret maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine the feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Conduct routine and special inspections as required by regulations.
