V52B AN/SQQ-89(V)15 Sonar System Level II Technician

Current service use not established

This code is listed in the directory. Inclusion alone does not confirm current service use.

A Navy Enlisted Classification: a skill designation sailors hold in addition to their rating.

Overview

An AN/SQQ-89(V)15 Sonar System Level II Technician starts and shuts down the system and performs organizational level maintenance on all functional segments. The technician interprets alerts and degraded or casualty indications, uses System Resource Manager functions to locate and correct faults to the lowest replaceable unit, and performs prescribed preventive maintenance.

Core Skills

  • Built-in fault isolation to replaceable units
  • System alert and degraded-operation interpretation
  • Preventive maintenance using prescribed procedures

Civilian Career Paths

Career associations are editorial assessments of the cited evidence, not an official crosswalk unless the evidence explicitly says so. O*NET supplies civilian occupation information, not proof of a military match. Related experience does not confer civilian qualifications. Tasks and tools below describe civilian work, not military training.

Electrical and Electronics Repairers, Commercial and Industrial Equipment

Sonar system fault localization, correction to the lowest replaceable unit, and prescribed preventive maintenance transfer directly to electronic equipment troubleshooting and repair.

How to prepare: Complete a hands-on industrial electronics troubleshooting course that uses external test equipment to diagnose faults beyond built-in system alerts.

What the civilian work involves
  • Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
  • Set up and test industrial equipment to ensure that it functions properly.
  • Inspect components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
Civilian tools and software (examples)
  • Circuit evaluation software
  • Computerized maintenance management system CMMS

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technologists and Technicians

Maintaining sonar functional segments and interpreting performance-monitoring faults provide a foundation for electronics maintenance and diagnostic testing in engineering support work.

How to prepare: Take a laboratory course in electronic test equipment and schematic interpretation, then document a bench troubleshooting project for technician applications.

What the civilian work involves
  • Modify, maintain, or repair electronics equipment or systems to ensure proper functioning.
  • Set up and operate specialized or standard test equipment to diagnose, test, or analyze the performance of electronic components, assemblies, or systems.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
